Best practices to run a successful Discount Hunt session in your Shopify store
On the the most important things is to begin your activity at the start or in the middle of the week, so that if something goes wrong, you won't have to spend your weekend providing support and responding to customer messages.
Ensure that your visitors are informed about it. Utilize your announcement bar to display a "notification" regarding the Discount Hunt session running in your store. If you have previously gathered subscribers, you can send them an email about this limited opportunity.
Drive visitors from social media to your store while your Discount Hunt session is active. The likelihood that users who visit your site will become customers during a Discount Hunt session is much higher than during regular visits. Therefore, strive to drive as much traffic to your site as possible while your session is active.
Provide your visitors with real discounts using your codes; otherwise, they might think that you only collected their personal information to send them promotional messages later. Try to avoid this and let them feel that they genuinely received valuable discounts in exchange for their efforts and data.
It is better to give away more small discounts/gifts than a big one. More small gifts can attract more visitors, even if the value is smaller. When a discount sounds too good to be true, people can become suspicious, increasing the likelihood of receiving some angry customer messages.
If you'd like to give away a big discount/gift, draw the winner(s) randomly from the participants. This way, more people can participate, and you'll have some control over the final winner. If someone is attempting to manipulate the system, you can eliminate them from your activity. You won't have this control if you automatically give away your prizes.
Run your activity for multiple days so that if someone misses it on the first day, they can still participate. Notification overload is real. You likely have some very engaged customers who read all your posts and emails immediately, but it's worth considering those who are not always so connected.
For the same reasons, don't conduct a "fastest wins" type of activity because users will be upset if they miss it.
If your discount codes have an expiration date, don’t forget to add that information to the necessary places (content after form submission and success email).
Ensure that the tone of your texts aligns with the one you use in your store.
After your Discount Hunt session is closed, send a follow-up message to your hunters. Let them know how long their discount code is valid, and you can also suggest products they can use their codes for.
Your visitors will likely have questions regarding the discount code they hunted. To save yourself some time, create a short FAQ and make it available in your store. You can also add it to the body of the success email.
Don’t make it too easy to hunt for the discount codes. One of the goals of Discount Hunt is to keep your visitors in a loop where they keep browsing your store, discovering, and purchasing products.
Don’t make it too hard to hunt for the discount codes. Assuming that your visitors will spend an hour in your store or will visit 100 pages is something that probably none of them will do. Make sure that you use lifelike settings for your Discount Hunt sessions.
When possible, it’s always a good practice to run your Discount Hunt sessions connected to something seasonal (e.g., Christmas, Halloween, Easter, Back To School, etc.) to make your communication tasks easier.
